Band Recital

We attended a band recital at Century High School tonight.  Jeffrey played the French Horn, and the Woodwind Ensemble played four pieces.  After the performance, the students presented Mr. Brian with parting gifts.  This was his last band performance for Century High, and he will be leaving to teach in Aberdeen.  He taught at Century since 2008, and Jeffrey really respected him.  We are sad to see him go.  He was an awesome marching band leader.

Signs of Spring

I was sitting on our porch this morning when I saw a robin standing among the blossoms of our flowering Cherry.

Lunar Eclipse

Tonight we had a great view of the lunar eclipse.  It had already begun as the moon rose above the mountains.  We watched as the shadow covered the moon and turned it orange and red.

Game of Tiaras

Jeffrey decided some weeks ago that he wanted to participate in Century High School's production of "Game of Tiaras".  He tried out for a part in the play, and he had to present a memorized two-minute comedy sketch to the Drama teacher.  He was given the part of French Soldier who doubles as a Priest.  He spent every day after school practicing for the last three weeks, and this week they started performing.  Our family decided to attend tonight's performance.  We enjoyed it, and Jeffrey did really well.  He liked being part of the play, and he got to know other students.  After the play, the kids bought ice cream on the way home.

A Family Dinner

The kids drove up from Utah today, and we all got together for dinner.  We ordered meals from Texas Roadhouse, and we had a full dinner table with Tyler, Jaylen, Baylor, Ashley, Caz, Kevin, Kaleb, and Kevin's girlfriend, Kayla.  We played games after dinner, and we enjoyed a relaxing evening.

Music and the Spoken Word

This morning we got up early to get dressed to go to Temple Square.  The hotel said it served breakfast, but they only offered some cereal and small muffins.  We planned to eat out anyway.  We parked at the Conference Center and walked to the Tabernacle.  We stood in line for just a few minutes, and we had no problem finding seats in the balcony.  This is only the third week that the Tabernacle Choir has allowed the public to view their performance since the Covid-19 pandemic began over two years ago.  We watched Music and the Spoken Word.  It was themed for Mother's Day, and there was a special performance by the Bells on Temple Square.  We really enjoyed the performance.  After that we drove to Clearfield, Utah to see Ashley and Caz in their new home.  Their address is: 1448 W. 1100 S. Clearfield, UT 84015.  They had moved in the first weekend of April, and this was our first chance to visit them.  We would have stayed with them instead of the hotel, but Caz had the Shingles virus and we felt like we should safe-distance.  We spent a short time with them, and then we went to find something to eat in Ogden.  We settled on IHOP, which was very busy due to the Mother's Day holiday.  After lunch we stopped in to see my mom and Dave Taylor at their apartment in North Ogden.  We had a nice visit with them before returning home to Pocatello.

Weekend in Utah

We left home this morning and drove to Tyler and Jaylen's new home in Eagle Mountain, Utah.  Their new address is:  7041 N. Spring Hill Lane, Eagle Mountain, UT 84005.  They moved into their home the first weekend in April, and this was our first chance to visit them after the move.  I drove in a separate vehicle, a pickup that we had rented in order to haul a chest freezer down to Utah.  Tyler and Jaylen left with Jeffrey to meet up with Ashley and Caz at a theater in Thanksgiving Point.  They watched the new Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.  Jeffrey is really into that series right now.  Wendy and I stayed home with Baylor.  We attempted to put her down for a nap, but Wendy said that I fell asleep and Baylor walked around me while I napped.  We did take her on a walk to a park near her home.  The kids returned home, and after a brief rest, and a lot of discussion, we decided to go to Mod's Pizza for dinner.  Tyler bought Crumbl cookies to celebrate my birthday.  After dinner we had to drive to the Salt Lake Airport to return the rental pickup, and then we checked into the Quality Inn to spend the night in Salt Lake.  Wendy spent some time disinfecting the room - not very good quality for sure.  We will never stay there again.
