Several months ago we learned about the open house for the LDS Rome Temple that would be held in February, 2019. We decided that we needed to take the opportunity to go see it, and to see Rome. Kevin worked for Delta SkyWest, and he could provide us with standby tickets at a low price. I booked a room at the Napoleon Hotel because it was convenient to the Roma Termini train station and there was a subway station located directly in front of the hotel. Our challenge was flying standby, and we weren't sure if we would arrive on the day we were supposed to check in.
On Saturday, February 9th, we drove from Pocatello to Salt Lake City. We left home about noon so we could arrive at the SLC Airport by 3:00 p.m. We found our plane and waited at the gate for our seat assignments. Our flight was direct to Paris, France, and there were a number of empty seats. We had a middle row to ourselves, so we were able to stretch out, relax, and get some sleep. We arrived in Paris about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. We had a long walk to our next flight, and it felt like we walked from one end of the airport to the other. Our flight from Paris to Rome looked busy, and I wasn't very confident that we would get on. To my surprise they called our names, and we even had two seats together. We arrived in Rome about 5:00 p.m. We walked from our arrival gate to the train station, and we took the train into Rome. It was starting to get dark as we travelled into the city. We walked in the dark from the Roma Termini train station to our hotel which only took about 10 minutes. We each had a carry-on size luggage and a personal bag. We were travelling light on purpose. We checked into our room and relaxed for a moment. We were hungry so we left the hotel and walked around the corner to find a pizzeria. It was about 8:00 pm. when we sat down at Il Lampadario restaurant and ate a margarita pizza with orange soda to drink. We returned to our room after dinner and went to bed hoping to sleep.
