Class of 1985 Reunion

This weekend Wendy and I attended my 40th high school class reunion at Altamont, Utah.  I wasn't too sure if we were going to make it.  On Friday, July 25th, I worked all day while Wendy and Karen helped Joyce get released from the Quinn Meadows care center and moved into our main guest room.  We had worked on preparing her room all week.  Last week Wendy ordered a new bed frame and mattress with adjustable feet and back rests as well as a massage feature, but it looked like it wouldn't arrive until after Joyce moved in.  On Wednesday I spent quite a bit of time getting Joyce's bed moved from her house to ours.  After getting her bed set up and made I sat down to take a break when I saw a UPS delivery driver bringing the new bed frame and boxed mattress to our door.  I couldn't believe it.  It took less than three days to arrive, and now I had to move her bed back to her house and set up the new bed.  I got it done with a bit of help from Jeffrey, and the new bed works great.  Friday evening we got Joyce settled into her room, and Wendy and I drove to Caz and Ashley's house.  We arrived about 10:00 p.m.  Karen stayed the night at our house to be with Joyce.

We got up Saturday morning about 6:00 a.m. and left the house by 7:00 a.m.  We stopped at McDonald's for breakfast bagel sandwiches.  We drove through Salt Lake City and Parley's Canyon.  We passed Park City and Heber City.  I was amazed at the construction going on at those locations.  We drove up Daniel's Canyon and past Strawberry Reservoir which brought back several memories.  We stopped to use the restrooms in Duchesne, and we arrived in Altamont about 5 minutes before the parade started.  Main Street was packed with people on both sides.  We parked near the old Altamont Theater and set up chairs in front of it.  The announcers and speakers were in front of us by the grocery store where I had worked for a few years during high school.  It was a nice parade and the Class of 1985 was sitting on a trailer with a cover for shade.  I stood up to take pictures of them as they passed by and they encouraged me to join them.  I waited until the parade turned around to make a second pass up Main Street, and then I got on and sat next to Bill Goodrich.  It was fun to see everyone, and surprisingly there were about 22 classmates in attendance.  After the parade we all met at the Altamont Theater for a lunch and visit.  We had BBQ pork sandwiches, beans, and coleslaw.  We ate at tables on the stage.  I had never been in the theater as it was closed down while I lived in Altamont.  It's actually quite nice, and it looks like they are trying to fix it up.  After lunch we watched a video presentation of our class that Rodney Ames put together.  We spent some time visiting, but the theater staff had to move us out for a rehearsal.  We took a few pictures and said our goodbyes.  It sounds like we will try to get together again in five years.  I wish we could have visited a while longer.  My classmates are good people...salt of the Earth.

Wendy and I drove to Mt. Emmons to find that the old house where I lived with my parents and sisters was abandoned and surrounded by tall weeds.  It just needs to be torn down.  Just a mile down the road were brand new homes that looked out of place for the neighborhood.  We also stopped at the Altamont Cemetery.  I wanted to find the headstone for Ray Rogers.  It took me a few minutes, but I found it.  The cemetery appears to be well maintained.  We drove back to Caz and Ashley's, and we stopped at Layne's Chicken to pick up some dinner.  We ate with Ashley, Caz, and Camden and visited for a short time before driving back to Pocatello.  We finally arrived home about 10:00 p.m.
